American Society of News Editors offering several awards

The deadline to send in nominations for a slew of awards from the American Society of News Editors is approaching fast. Act quickly to submit entries for:
- Distinguished Writing Awards for outstanding commentary, editorial, non-deadline, accountability and other forms of writing and reporting.
- The Batten Medal, recognizing individual achievement in public service journalism.
- The Community Service Photojournalism Awards, which honors a photographer who has an understanding of his/her community and captures the sense of that community with powerful images.
- The Distinguished Writing on Diversity, recognizing writing that helps a community understand and better appreciate its racial, ethnic and religious diversity.
- The Laventhol Prize for Deadline News Reporting
- Online Storytelling
Cash prizes in each category range from $1,000 to $10,000. You must submit nominations by Feb. 1. For more information, visit the ASNE website.
Also coming soon is the deadline to submit nominations for the ASNE Leadership Award. This award recognizes leaders who make a major difference on behalf of American newspapers. Nominees can be top editors, assignment editors or people from outside the newsroom who have championed great journalism during their careers. The deadline for leadership award entries is Feb. 28.
